Our Events

There are several event types GEL hosts regularly - we try to rotate these throughout the year to keep things fresh. Every one of our events has drinks and nibbles, generously provided by our venue providers and sponsors.
LevelUp!
The most common, and to most people most familiar, type of event. In this format, we invite an expert to our venue to talk about a subject they're passionate about - this can be literally anything, but we try to focus on subjects that don't see the limelight very often.
Portfolio Reviews
We invite games industry professionals to give you one-on-one feedback on your portfolio! Register in advance, and you'll be assigned a time slot during which you have one of our professionals all to yourself!
Round Table
In this format, we invite professionals and students who are interested or specialized in a particular field (like VFX or Technical Art) to sit down in a big circle and share wisdom while answering each other's questions. Our moderator will field questions and assign them to attendees to answer, if they indicate they'd like to contribute.
Social
Come hang out and have drinks and nibbles on us!
Urban Sketching
Let us take you through London on a free-form sketching tour! No strings attached, just show up at the event location (advertised in advance) and follow the group! Just don't forget to bring pencil and paper.

What we're about

GEL, founding in February of 2019 by Kristy, was born from the desire to improve diversity in the Games Industry, and to organize events around this theme of diversity and inclusivity. Since we started, we've organized an event almost every single month (on average), and we have many more planned.

In terms of how we decide which events to host, there are three simple core concepts that we want all of our events to adhere to in some respect. For any given event, at least two of these concepts must take center stage:

Diversity - does it promote our mission statement of improving diversity (of all kinds) in the games industry?
Education - does it educate our colleagues in the industry on a subject?
Community - is the event conducive to the community we wish to build?

Any event that checks at least two of these points, is one we will strongly consider hosting. Any that checks all three is a virtual guarantee.

How we decide who to reach out to

Honestly - we go by who we know, or who contacts us. When planning our agenda for the year, we lay out a loose plan on which events we'd like to host, and then we find speakers, panelists and social circles that pertain to that subject matter. If you feel like you could be one of our contributors, please don't hesitate to reach out!
Send us an email!
